Trauma-informed Therapy

Trauma-informed therapy is a specific approach to mental health treatment that acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma and integrates this understanding into every aspect of treatment. It is beneficial in working with any individual who has experienced trauma, either in childhood or as an adult.

What it looks like in practice:

Assessment: The therapist will screen for trauma history in a sensitive and non-judgemental manner.

Trigger identification: Working with the client, the therapist will identify the potential triggers (things that might bring back memories or emotions related to the trauma) and develop strategies to manage them.

Focus on strengths: While acknowledging the challenges, trauma-informed therapy also focuses on the client’s strengths and resources for healing.

Client-centered approach: The therapist provided a safe and non-judgmental environment to the client. She respects the client’s pace and what they feel comfortable discussing.

Psychoeducation: The therapist may provide psychoeducation about trauma and its effects, helping the clients understand their experiences.

To conclude, trauma-informed therapy is not a specific set of techniques, but rather an approach that can be integrated into various therapy modalities like (CBT, EMDR, etc.)
